The Cooper Union Redevelopment Plan
Washington Square Partners (WSP) represented The Cooper Union-one of the nation's leading architecture and engineering schools-in creating a redevelopment plan and then a land-use plan for its properties on Astor Place and Third Avenue in the East Village area of Manhattan. The rezoning proposal, which was ultimately successful despite significant controversy in a traditionally anti-development neighborhood, is facilitating construction of a new consolidated academic building for Cooper Union and a site for development of a 350,000 square foot office building. Washington Square Partners supervised a broad range of consultants to achieve this result. The project is currently under construction with a January 2009 completion date.
